Alexa Reimer
Miss Alexa has been dancing within the Fraser Valley for 14 years, starting at the age of five. After her first two years of ballet, she decided to explore the art of dance further by pursuing tap and modern. At age ten, Miss Alexa began training in tap and under the direction of Miss Catherine Potocky who has greatly influenced Miss Alexa’s passion for dance. In 2010, Miss Alexa came to FVAD under the direction of Mr. Carney to further develop her dance training. Miss Alexa has studied in RAD and open ballet, ISTD modern, ISTD tap and contemporary. She has also been a teacher’s assistant for several ballet and tap classes, as well as a substitute teacher for the younger students of the academy.
Miss Alexa has completed ballet examinations in ISTD and RAD Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate. She also achieved distinction on her ISTD Intermediate Modern exam, as well as her Intermediate and Advanced 1 Tap exams.
Miss Alexa has performed in various productions for FVAD, including the Mission Optimist Club’s Annual Talent Show, Calvin Dyck’s Songs, Strings and Steps, Raising the Barre and various fundraising events. She has also performed in the roles of Clara, Party Teens, Princess of the Ocean, Spanish, Arabian, Flowers, Lead Candy, and Snow Queen in the Nutcracker.
In the fall of 2014, Miss Alexa spent 3 months dedicated to service, biblical studies, french language, and culture. She took part in a program called “Outtatown”, through Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg. During these months, she travelled to Quebec, France, and Burkina Faso in West Africa. Since back in her hometown of Abbotsford, Miss Alexa has been working as a child care provider and is volunteering at Matthew’s House, a respite home for children with complex healthcare needs.
Along with teaching at FVAD, Miss Alexa will also be pursing her love of music, studying the harp in the Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s music degree program. She hopes to then accomplish a Bachelor’s degree in music therapy. Miss Alexa’s passion for dancing still continues to grow as the years progress. She is extremely delighted to pass on her love of dance to aspiring dancers at FVAD as a Primary Tap School teacher!
