Amanda Sheffield

Miss Amanda started dancing at the age of four at Fraser Valley Academy of Dance. She began with ballet, but then moved on to include jazz, contemporary, ISTD modern and ISTD tap. Miss Amanda has completed all her Royal Academy of Dance exams from grades 1 – 8 as well as Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2.

She has performed in many productions for FVAD, including Canada Day at Heritage Park, Celebration of Community, Gizeh Shriners’ Annual Talent Show, the Variety Children’s Charity Showcase, Calvin Dyck’s Songs, Strings and Steps. Raising the Barre, the Surrey Festival of Dance, the roles of Flowers, Arabian, Spanish, Snow Queen, and Lead Candy in the Nutcracker, and the lead role of Giselle for a visiting Beijing Delegation.

Miss Amanda has been a teacher’s assistant for many years at FVAD, as well as helping out with rehearsals and backstage for the Nutcracker and Annual School Performances. She taught for one year at the Mission Leisure Centre, teaching ballet and jazz to children from the ages of 3 to 10.  She has also worked as an office assistant for FVAD.

Following graduation from high school, Miss Amanda was accepted into the School of Alberta Ballet’s 2013 Senior Summer School, and then moved to Calgary after being accepted into their year-long Professional Division. She has received wonderful training, and has had the opportunity to tour as an Emerging Artist to elementary schools in Alberta.

She will be returning after their summer program in August 2014 to re-join FVAD as a Primary School ballet and tap teacher, as well as an Office Assistant.  She will also be attending the University of the Fraser Valley in the Fall  of 2014 in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program.

Having been taught by Mr. Carney for five years, and as one of FVAD’s first Pre-Professional Academy students, Miss Amanda understands his philosophy and approach to dance training.  She will be passing on that knowledge and inspiration to the school’s youngest students in 2014-15.
