We are so pleased to be offering a set of FREE ISTD Modern Theatre Dance classes 2023 with Karrie Hill who will be joining our teaching staff for 2023-24 for Ballet and ISTD Modern Theatre dance.

FVAD Modern Theatre Dance in Sing Sing Sing (2017)

Miss Karrie was trained in England, receiving teaching certificates in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre dance, as well as a Bachelor’s of Education and Special Ed Diploma.  She directed her own school for several years before emigrating to Canada.  Miss Karrie has taught for us in the past, and we are so thrilled that she is now able to join our staff several days each week to teach ballet and modern theatre dance.

We offered the very popular ISTD Modern Theatre dance classes for many years, and we are so pleased to be re-introducing this syllabus to our school.

FVAD Modern Theatre Dance in Steam Heat (2018)

For those who are unfamiliar with ISTD Modern Theatre dance, it is a wonderfully rich, diverse and dynamic syllabus that was originally developed to prepare dancers for the highly varied work involved in musical and theatrical productions, particularly in the West End and on Broadway.   It was also the basis for our much-missed Musical Theatre School which ran from 2015 to 2020.

Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style rooted in musical theatre, which originated in America. It is often seen in musical productions and is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern Theatre also incorporates jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles into its examination syllabus. Modern Theatre Dance defies a single permanent definition. This is largely due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the changing fashion in dance.
