Our Staff Nurturing the next generation

Lyla Frendo

Lyla Frendo began her training with us in the 2008-09 school year, in our very first year in Mission.  She performed in our annual Nutcracker as a little Mouse in her first year, progressing each year through many increasingly advanced roles to become one of our senior dancers in the Snow Queens in 2022.

She grew from a Little Red Candy Cane to be a Lead Candy Cane; from dancing as a Young Party Girl to the advanced Waltz of the Flowers; from Ocean to Lead Arabian, and many more roles.

Her diverse skills have been on display over the years as she expanded her training from ballet to tap to contemporary to modern to pointe. She was accepted into our half-day Pre-Professional Academy from 2017 to 2019, training 20+ hours per week to an advanced level and participating in numerous community performances. In 2019, she earned an invitation to the Alberta Ballet School, and attended the Ballet Jorgen summer intensive program.

She has performed in our Annual School Performances every year at the Clarke Theatre in many styles of dance, as well as performing on the stage with the Pre- Professional Academy in our Mary Poppins JR musical presentation.

Lyla has a wide experience working with children and youth in the community. As an EA in the
school district, she supports students with diverse abilities from elementary to high school. She has volunteered as a Youth Group Leader since 2021 and Children’s Liturgy Assistant Teacher since 2023. Lyla has been an FVAD class assistant becoming a mentor to our younger students and a helper backstage at productions. Her choreography has been performed on local stages in musical theatre productions of West Side Story and Anastasia.

Lyla brings with her an extensive first-hand knowledge of our school’s training and philosophies, as well as an abundance of additional experience with and awareness of traditional values in educating children.

We are thrilled to welcome her to our staff for 2025-26 to teach our younger students in pre-school dance, ballet and tap!
