A Ballet BC Day Out – Program 2

March 16, 2017
We so enjoyed our Ballet BC Day at the QE Theatre in Vancouver, watching a dress rehearsal of Program 2 with 77 of our parents, students, and teachers,

We met at FVAD in preparation for the day trip to Vancouver.  The coach arrived on time, and with our FVAD Student Transport Bus and several parents’ vehicles, we headed off to the QE Theatre with much excitement and anticipation.

Arriving early, we had a short stop at the Vancouver Public Library building for refreshments before lining up with many other excited community and student groups to enter the QE Theatre.  It was wonderful to be in an environment with so much enthusiasm in the air!

The four dances presented ranged from very contemporary dance to mixed ballet-contemporary styles.  Most of our families had not seen anything like what was presented. Many discussions began about how people felt about these very different sets, costumes, music and movement and about what they preferred.  Students talked about how things differed from the classical and contemporary ballet that was so familiar to them, and also about what they recognized within these very different presentations.  It was a very educational and inspiring day!

Among our many families that were spread around the theatre lobby in the intervals, we were very pleased to run into Juan, our Nutcracker Prince from 2016!

We are so thankful to Ballet BC for offering amazing $2 student tickets to their dress rehearsal so that so many children could experience this strong, young company.  And we are extremely grateful to our event sponsor, the Friesen Group of Companies, whose provision of the 56-seat coach allowed so many families to attend what was without doubt a day to remember!

We look forward to planning our next day out at the ballet!
